Eating edible food, wearing presentable clothes in society, having access to clean drinking water, the ability to live in houses, buying toys for your children, DVDs, VHS Cassettes, Laptops, CDs, VCDs, LCDs, adorning jewelry, having a haircut, shaving your beard and mustache all require money. These are material needs, which can be satisfied only through earning money. That is why material needs are necessary. Human beings cannot live without money. Hence, the biblical expression ‘Man does not live by bread alone.’ Man’s psychological needs are happiness, determination, courage, self-control, compassion, generosity, humanity, self-esteem, self-control, self-worth, and self-actualization, prayer, yoga, and meditation.
An industrial society provides man with material needs. Watching sports matches on television, watching movies, reading books, reading literature, going to restaurants, movies, listening to music, watching musicals, watching opera, musical events, going to Broadway. Money is the root of all evil. Material comforts contain within it the seeds of unhappiness. Neither the Chicago School nor the Marxist school nor the Keynesian school have a prescription for happiness and psychological well-being. Material comforts do not bring about mental happiness per se. Happiness comes from prayer, meditation, yoga and belief in God. These can be cultivated through practice.
